Senator Ron Silver brings over 35 years of legal and legislative experience to the Florida BioFuels Association, Inc. Considering Senator Silver’s vast legislative experience and his active role in the alternative fuels and renewable energies; we are delighted to count on him as the 2008-2010 Chairman of the FBFA.
Senator Silver was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1978 and continued his tenure in that body until 1992. As Senator, he served on a variety of committees, and was chairman of both the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health & Human Services and Criminal Justice. His career in the Senate has earned praise from his colleagues, in both the legislature and other branches of government throughout the nation. Mr. Silver is married with two children and three grandchildren and resides with his family in North Miami Beach.

R. B. “Buzz” Hoover is President of Gate Biofuels, LLC in Jacksonville, Florida. Gate Biofuels has recently announced plans to build one of Florida’s first green fields biofuels terminals in Jacksonville. Mr. Hoover is also Vice President-Petroleum Supply of Gate Petroleum Company, one of the Southeast’s largest independent petroleum marketers. Mr. Hoover, a native Texan, is a graduate of Rice University. He has served as Adjunct Professor of Finance at the University of North Florida teaching a course on The Oil Markets.

Ray has 30 years of experience in solid and hazardous waste management in both the public and private sectors. From 1994-98, he served as the Environmental Manager for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s statewide recycling program.
He was a Principal with Camp, Dresser & McKee, an international environmental engineering firm, served as the City of Jacksonville’s Refuse to Energy Project Director, and an associate with the former Florida Resource Recovery Council (an advisory body to the Governor and Legislature on recycling and resource recovery). He also served as staff with the Florida House of Representatives Environmental Protection Committee.
Since 1998, he has served as SWIX’s Associate Director and is responsible for project development, grants writing, workshop development, technical assistance to the waste management and recycling industry, and administrative assistance to the Executive Director.

Mr. Jones has worked with local, state, and federal agencies, legislative and congressional committee staff, trade associations, and with industries regulated under RCRA, CERCLA, and OSHA. Mr. Jones has organized and managed various conferences for agencies and organizations such as the Florida Hospital Association, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the National Conference on Waste Exchange and Resource Reuse, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Mr. Jones has presented papers at and participated in conferences concerning solid and hazardous waste management. Mr. Jones’ areas of interest are waste minimization, resource management, recycling, and occupational health and safety. He has worked extensively with both the regulated community, as well as industries that provide services and equipment to firms that are regulated under the RCRA.

Senator Michael Bennett was elected State Senator in 2002 and then re-elected in November 2004. He represents District 21, which includes Manatee, Sarasota, Desoto Charlotte and Lee counties. He served in the Florida House from 2000-2002. In 2006, his energy bill created the Florida 20/20 Commission, along with economic incentives for alternative energy use by Florida residents and businesses. In 2007, his legislation added new alternative energy sales tax breaks and rebates and established a statewide task force to develop a coherent energy policy for Florida. Senator Bennett believes that we need to move deliberately toward alternative energy.

Doug Holder is a small business owner and president of Doug Holder Real Estate Services. He is also involved with numerous projects promoting business development in the State of Florida. Doug serves as honorary Co-Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Business Advisory Council, member of the Republican Party of Sarasota County (Statesman), Trustee of the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, and is member of the Venice Chamber of Commerce among other organizations. Doug is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. While at MTSU, Doug served as student body president. Doug is married to wife Shannon. They live in Sarasota with their two children, son Chase who is seven years old and two year old daughter Channing.

Charles “Chip” Fletcher is a partner with the law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP. Mr. Fletcher’s career in regulatory affairs started as an environmental engineer with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. He has represented public and private clients throughout Florida for over ten years as part of his law practiced base in Tampa, Florida.

Ted Hill heads up CQ Inc’s Biomass and Alternate Fuel Group. A native of Bristol, England, Mr. Hill has enjoyed a long and successful career in the renewable energy, recycling and power generation fields. Prior to joining CQ he served as President & Chief Operating Officer at American Ash Recycling, Inc. a world leader in the area of incinerator ash treatment and beneficial reuse. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hill was Chief Operating Officer of KTI, Inc. a fully integrated renewable energy, environmental management and recycling organization with 28 businesses in 21 states. Mr. Hill is British educated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Over the last 10 years, her company has been involved in some of the biggest and most visible environmental challenges in Florida. Her company is working on a number of green energy initiatives designed to push Florida to the forefront of this new and exciting public policy.

In May of 2007 Dana Weber was hired as the Executive Director of the newly-formed Florida Biofuels Association, Inc. Dana brings fundraising, event management, promotional and marketing experience to the position. Her last position was Fundraising and Event Manager for the non-profit environmental organization in Denver, Colorado. She has also started 2 small businesses and worked as a web development consultant in Portland Oregon. She served as president of the Tallahassee Chapter of the March of Dimes (MOD) for 5 consecutive years as well as on the National Council for MOD. In 1990 Dana was selected by Senator Lawton Chiles to handle his North Florida “Walk’n for Lawton” fundraising campaign for Governor of Florida. Dana is the proud mother of 2 children: Brett and Nikki.
